PURPOSE:To improve mechanical strength of a ceramic sintered compact by forming and burning a ceramics mixture consisting of one or more kind of compounds of a specific amount of Al2O3, oxide, carbide and nitride of Hf and the remainder substantially comprising Si3N4. CONSTITUTION:>=60wt.% Si3N4 powder containing >=80wt.% alpha phase type Si3N4 is blended with 3-25wt.% Al2O3 powder and 0.2-40wt.% at least one kind of compound powder selected from oxide, carbide, nitride and silicate of Hf such as HfO2 having <=2mum average particle diameter using a dispersing medium by a ball mill, etc., to prepare a raw material powder. Then a prescribed amount of binder is added and blended with the raw material powder and the blond is formed by a press forming method; etc., to prepare a formed article. The formed article is degreased by heating it in N2 gas atmosphere and then subjected to ordinary pressure sintering at about 1700-1850 deg.C in N2 gas atmosphere to provide the beta-sialon based ceramic sintered compact. |
