The present invention is directed to a method for making custom designed decorative moldings having a durable and intricate exterior decorative surface. The method comprises the steps of providing at least one polystyrene member with a selected decorative surface, providing at least one molded polyurethane foam member with a selected decorative surface, bonding the members to form a single predetermined configuration with the decorative surfaces exposed and applying an outer protective skin layer to the entire exposed decorative surface. The outer skin layer providing protection against the outdoor elements such that the decorative molding has excellent weatherability properties, and is less prone to discoloration, cracking, delamination or other types of deterioration. The invention also provides decorative moldings made in accordance with the method of the present invention.
