PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain high-grade TiC whisker with desired aspect properties through a solid phase reaction process by using titanium dioxide powder of specified particle size as Ti source material. CONSTITUTION:The TiC whisker having desired aspect properties can efficiently be obtained by reaction, under heating in an inert atmosphere, of a mixture of (A) a Ti source material (titanium dioxide powder 0.1-1.0mum in particle diameter), (B) a carbonaceous material (e.g. carbon black), (C) a catalyst (Fe, Ni or Co chloride), and, as necessary, (D) an alkali metal chloride as pulverization suppressive agent (e.g. NaCl, KCl). |
