PURPOSE: To lower a cell voltage by integrating a cathode feeder, bipolar plate and anode feeder. CONSTITUTION: This filter press-type water electrolytic cell is formed with a main anode and main cathode arranged on both ends, plural unit cells furnished between the electrodes in series and a clamping bolt and nut to integrate the cells. The one cell is formed by a bipolar plate 9 on the anode side, an anode feeder 7, an electrode joining membrane 3, a cathode feeder 8 and an adjacent bipolar plate 9 on the cathode side. The electrode joining membrane 3 consists of an ion-exchange membrane and catalytic electrodes on both sides. A commercial-scale electrolytic cell usually consists of 80 to 600 unit cells. The anode feeder 7 is formed by diffusion-joining a titanium base material and a titanium fiber layer. The electrode joining membrane 3 is made of a solid high molecular electrolyte membrane. The cathode feeder 8 is formed by plating a titanium base material with platinum. Consequently, the electrolytic cell is effectively operated for a long period. |
