PURPOSE:To retrieve a desired one out of many pictures with high efficiency by reducing the display range of a single picture through oblique projection of pictures and scrolling the projected images while displaying them by several times on the same picture. CONSTITUTION:The picture given from a file medium 4 of large capacity are inputted to an affine converter 5 for production of pictures which are projected in an optional projecting direction. These projected images are stored in an image memory 6. A scroll system is selected by a retrieval input key 2 after a picture/index switching device 3 is switched to the picture display. Thus a CPU 1 decides the display position of picture based on the set scroll system and displays the pictured read out of the memory 6 onto a display device 8.
