PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting device capable of improving availability of light and miniaturizing a whole shape and adaptable even for a display device of a front light system and to provide a display device using the lighting device. SOLUTION: This lighting device 1 is provided with a transparent light transmission plate 2 propagating light L incident at an incident angle of a total reflection angle or above by repeating total reflection and a transparent light lead-out body 3 emitting the light L propagating through the inside of the light transmission plate 2 to the outside, and this light lead-out body 3 is provided with a reflective index different from the light transmission plate 2, and is arranged struck to the surface of the light transmission plate 2. This display device is constituted of using the lighting device 1, and either one of a light reflection type display panel or a light transmission type display panel is arranged on the surface side of the light lead-out body 3 provided with the lighting device 1.
