PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface decorating apparatus which can simultaneously carry out formation of an embossing pattern and decorative coating. SOLUTION: A mold releasing agent supply device 10 applies a mold releasing agent to the surface of an emboss roll 4. A control section 22 controls ink jet from an ink jet section 21, based on an injection pattern data, to thereby apply a point color ink to a recess 4b of the emboss roll 4. Then, ink mixed with colored particles is applied to a projection 4a of the emboss roll 4 via a transfer roll 31, and the emboss roll 4 is rotated and press-fitted to a plastic plate-like body S conveyed by a conveyor belt 3. Then, a recess (groove portion) Sa is formed in the plastic plate-like body S by means of the projection 4a of the emboss roll 4, and the ink mixed with the colored particles is transcribed into the recess Sa, to thereby carry out wood-grain-like coating. Further, the point color ink is transcribed on the projection Sb of the plastic plate-like body S, to thereby carry out decorative coating on the surface of the plastic plate-like body S.
