The invention relates to an ignition system for an internal combustion engine comprising an ignition device, which requires a high voltage (ignition voltage) for igniting an ignition spark. The ignition device comprises two ignition coils (14, 16) whose secondary windings (20, 24) are each connected to electrodes (18, 22) of a spark plug (12, 12'), whose primary windings (28, 34) can each be connected to a supply voltage source via a switching means (30, 36). The ignition device also comprises a control circuit via which a temporally offset control of the ignition coils (14, 16) ensues. |
