PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the mutual interference of distance measuring devices each installed to a robot in the case that a plurality of autonomous mobile robots are present in one and the same movement area. SOLUTION: This distance measuring device adopts a light-section method for projecting slit light onto the surface of an object to which the distance is to be measured, setting a significant point by photographing its image, and measuring the distance to the significant point from the location of projection of the slit light and the locational relationship of a photographing device; and is mounted to each autonomous mobile robot. Each distance measuring device is independently provided with a radiation timing control device for radiating the slit light radiated from the distance measuring device of each robot on a random basis or a pseudo random basis. By this constitution, it is possible to prevent the mutual interference of the distance measuring devices and to effectively prevent interference when each robot autonomously moves even in the case that a plurality of the autonomous mobile robots are present in the narrow movement area.
