PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To unnecessitate a large storage capacity of line error FIFO memory which is required in a conventional error diffusion processing circuit. SOLUTION: A picture processor is constituted to successively input difference calculation results with an error diffusion processing in respective arithmetic circuits 51-54 to the circuit in a succeeding stage for error matrix calculation by respectively arranging the circuits 51-54 for calculating lines (1)-(4) to perform the error diffusion processing by the respective extended first to n-th lines when compression data is extended on n lines and the error diffusion processing is performed. The processor is also constituted to use a difference calculation result which is held in compression data and error FIFO (1)1 and (2)2 for storing compression data when the succeeding error diffusion processing is performed in the line (1) arithmetic circuit 51 by commonly holding the difference calculation result of the last stage line (4) arithmetic circuit 54 in the compression data and error FIFO (1)1 and (2)2.
