An expanded product (P), made of biodegradable material intended for a use other than as a food, is obtained by extrusion-curing of native crushed vegetable matter whose average particle size is 1 micron to 1.5 mm and whose amylose/ amylopectin ratio not more than 30%. An INDEPENDENT claim is included for a continuous process for manufacturing product (P) where an extrusion machine comprising a rotating screw carries out thermo-mechanical work on the vegetable matter at /- 600 revolutions per minute.
