PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader that can accurately correct read data of image information and needs no frequent cleaning of a white reference body. SOLUTION: The image reader 1 is provided with a sensor unit 24 that emits a light to a document 6 carried along a carrying path 10 and receives a light reflected in the document to optically read image information and with the white reference rod body 31 having an outer surface 34 exposed onto the carrying path and a white face 36 at its part to correct the sensor unit to have an identical output to read the image information. The white reference body is placed on the carrying path in a way of turning around the axis over a 1st position at which the white face is exposed to the carrying path and a 2nd position at which the white face escapes under the carrying path in the case of reading image information. A cover 55 covering the white face is placed around the white reference body when the white reference body is turned to the 2nd turning position.
