PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the contrast and brightness in the case of being used as a light transmission type liquid crystal display device without reducing the brightness in the case of being used as a light reflection type liquid crystal display device in a liquid crystal display device used both as a light transmission, type and a light reflection type. SOLUTION: An active matrix substrate 20 having retardation plates 27, 28 and a counter substrate 40 having retardation plates 42, 43 are disposed with holding a liquid crystal layer 50 therebetween, in which a disposition angle of an optical axis relative to a reference direction of the retardation plates 27, 28 and that of the retardation plates 42, 43 are staggered by approximately 90 degrees. |
