PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique enabling the processing of a content by the use of an alternate program even if a plug-in program is not installed in a client. SOLUTION: The content providing device 100 detects a program possessed by the client 200. When the client 200 retains the plug-in program, the content providing device 100 instructs the client 200 to process the content by the plug-in program. When the client 200 retains no plug-in program, the device 100 instructs the client 200 to process the content with the alternate program.
