The instrument has a main stem (1) with a blade (7) at one and a finger grip (2) at the other. Hinged to this is a second finger grip (4) and a second scissor blade (5). The blade and finger grip are coupled by a connecting rod (8) with mechanical couplings (9) at each end. The instruments are produced from a super elasticity alloy and the threaded profile of the coupling is produced by a process that does not modify the material characteristics. This involves the use of a focussed laser to cause localised vaporisation of the surface.
