<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device that can suppress a display defect such as afterimages, stained unevenness, etc., of both transmission display and reflection display and further realizes bright display with a wide field angle as a transflective liquid crystal display device. <P>SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display device is a transflective liquid crystal display device of vertical alignment mode which has a multi-gap structure; and a pixel electrode 31 has a plurality of island-shaped parts 31a to 31c in a dot area and connection parts 31d and 31e electrically connecting the adjacent island-shape parts 31a to 31c to one another and is so constituted that a border step area N where the two island-shaped parts 31b and 31c among the plurality of island-shaped parts 31a to 31c are arranged in a transmission display area T and the remaining island-shaped part 31a is arranged in a reflection display area R and which continuously varies in liquid crystal layer thickness and the connection part 31b of the pixel electrode 31 are arranged one over the other in a plane. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
