<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sure and non-polluting method for metallizing electroceramics. <P>SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing an electroceramic component (1), for example a varistor (1), includes a process of having surface regions (5, 6) of an electroceramic body (2) irradiated with laser, before application of metallization sections (3, 4) onto the surface regions (5, 6). The laser irradiation refines the roughness of or causes chemical changes in the surface for improving the bonding of metallized sections, and reduces or removes the roughness of the surface regions (5, 6) to be metallized on the electroceramic body. In addition, the laser irradiation improves transverse conductivity, whereby a very small contact resistance and a homogeneous current distribution are achieved, especially in the vicinity of the metallization sections (3, 4). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
