<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem with a USB-enabled optical disk device wherein, although the device can be driven by means of both an AC adapter and a USB power bus (VBUS) of a USB interface serving as drive power sources and can be driven by means of the AC adapter when connected o the AC adapter and by means of the VBUS when not connected thereto, in the case of USB power drive a computer needs to operate only a particular computer whose USB power supply has been reinforced. <P>SOLUTION: An electronic device has a determining means which can obtain electric power from and input and output signals to and from another electronic device by a connection means having both a power transmitting function and a signal transmitting function, and which determines whether the electric power obtained from the connection means is sufficient depending on at least either the transmission or reception of signals using the connection means.
