PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the workability for releasing a residual stress after welding by a simple method, and further to solve a noise problem. SOLUTION: In a method for reducing the residual stress produced in the neighborhood of the welded portion including the welded portion in a structure in which a welding metal is welded on the surface of a base material, an area including the direction of a principal stress from a edge portion of the welding metal to the neighborhood of the edge portion of the welded portion and the surface of the base material existing within an appropriate distance is plastically deformed by applying impacts by means of an apparatus for energizing a member having a tip end of an arbitrary shape by an elastic means, and at least one recessed portion is formed.
