Between a hot cathode tube (21) and an optical member (22), a shade (36) whose both front and back surfaces reflect light and which is wider than the hot cathode tube (21) is provided in a position spaced apart from the optical member (22). The light emitted from the hot cathode tube (21) toward the optical member (22) is reflected from the shade (36) and prevented from striking directly the optical member (22). Since the shade (36) serves as a pseudo-light source wider than the hot cathode tube (21) because of the reflection from the surface of the shade (36) facing the optical member (22), formation of a lamp image can be prevented.
