A composition comprising a tanshinone compound isolated from Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix is provided to inhibit coagulation of beta-amyloid and the activity of the beta-amyloid and show memory recovery effect, thereby being usefully used as pharmaceutical compositions and health functional foods for preventing and treating cognitive dysfunction. A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating Alzheimer's disease or Parkinson's disease comprises a tanshinone compound selected from the group consisting of miltirone, 1,2-didehydromiltirone, tanshinone IIA and dihydroisotanshinone 1 represented by the formulae (1) to (3) and (5) as an effective ingredient.
