PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air aluminum battery which can operate continuously for a long time and is safe and secure.SOLUTION: An air aluminum battery 15 consists of a cell stack 17, a water feed tank 20 provided thereabove, and a waste water tank 21 provided therebelow, the cell stack being formed by stacking an arbitrary number of unit cells 10 each constituted by stacking and uniting an air electrode 12, a hydrophilic sheet 14, a water retention body 13 having an upper capillary tube part 13a and a lower capillary tube part 13b, and an aluminum electrode 11. An electrolyte reserved in the water feed tank and consisting of strong acid or strong alkaline water is supplied continuously to a water retention body through the upper capillary tube part by gravitation and capillarity. Although aluminum hydroxide is produced on a surface of the aluminum electrode as battery reaction progresses, the aluminum hydroxide is discharged by gravitation and capillarity from the water retention body through the lower capillary tube part as waste liquid together with an excessive electrolyte and stored in the waste water tank.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3 |
