1,244,074. Sodium methallylsulphonate. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 18 Sept., 1969 [19 Oct., 1968], No. 45968/69. Heading C2C. Sodium methallylsulphonate is prepared by reacting a concentrated aqueous solution of sodium sulphite with at least a 5% molar excess of methallyl chloride, in the presence of an emulsifier and, in a first stage, at 30-70‹ C. and thereafter at reflux, cooling the reaction mixture to 0-15‹ C. and collecting the precipitated crystals. The mother liquor may be evaporated to dryness and extracted with a C 1-3 aliphatic carboxylic acid or dialkylamide to obtain a further yield of product. Various sulphonates and sulphates are specified as emulsifiers. |
