摘要
1,218,888. Edge grinding machine. LIBBEY OWENS-FORD CO. 26 Feb., 1969 [29 Feb., 1968], No. 10314/69. Heading B3D. An edge grinding machine comprises a base 10, Fig. 2, a worktable 11 for holding a workpiece 14 with at least one edge thereof exposed, means for rotating the worktable about an axis normal thereto, a support member 27, and a pair of grinding units A, B carried by the support member in spaced side-by-side relation. An edge grinding wheel 22 is carried by each grinding unit with means for driving the grinding wheels about axes parallel with the axis of rotation of the worktable, and means acting on the support member 27 to yieldably hold the grinding wheels in edge grinding engagement with the workpiece during its rotation. Also present are means on the worktable for carrying a template 13 for rotation therewith, a template follower roll 25, Fig. 3, carried by each grinding unit and arranged to ride against a template carried by the template carrying means to gauge the grinding action of the respective grinding wheel. The support member is pivotally mounted to swing about an axis parallel to the axes of rotation of the grinding wheels and located between the grinding units and between the support member and the worktable. In the machine described the worktable 11 is rotated centrally of the base 10, Fig. 2, and the support member 27 is pivotally mounted on a bracket 40, carried by an arm 28 which is pivoted at 30 to a support 32 fixed to the base. The arm 28 is urged in the direction to press the grinding units A, B against the workpiece by a weight attached to a cable 136. The support member 27 is pivoted to the bracket 40 at t and b, Fig. 3, and carries drive motors 75 for the grinding wheels. and supporting brackets 122 for frusto-conical template follower rolls 25. The motors are adjustable vertically on the support member, and the brackets 124 are adjustable vertically to cause the grinding wheels to be moved relative to the template 13, e.g. to compensate for wear of these wheels. The workpiece, which may be a glass plate, is held during grinding by pneumatically operated clamping plates 16, Fig. 2, and coolant-fluid is supplied to the workpiece from nozzles. The units A, B may include rough and fine grinding wheels respectively.
