1309814 Detergent containing builders V S E HENTSCHEL and G O HENTSCHEL 7 May 1970 [1 Oct 1969] 21960/70 Heading C5D A detergent composition comprises a surfactant and at least one organic builder which is an aliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acid or anhydride -or ammonium or alkali metal salt thereof containing 1 to 8 carbon atoms in the hydrocarbon moiety, said composition being substantially free from phosphate or nitrogenous builders and from the normal salt of oxydisuccinic acid of Specification 1,261,829. Specified acids are acetic, lactic, tartaric, citric, benzoic, phthalic and benzene tri-, tetra-, penta- and hexacarboxylic acids. The effectiveness of the builder is improved by the addition of a polyvalent alcohol such as sorbitol, mannitol, pentaerythritol, trimethylolpropane, trimethylol ethane, hexanetriol, butane-1,2,4-triol, or a mixture thereof. The surfactants may be anionic, amphoteric, nonionic or mixtures thereof. Conventional additives may be present. |
