Staple fibres are spun into yarn, by separating the fibres on a roller to which they are continuously delivered, conducting the operated fibres and the air in which they are entrained into a rapidly rotating hollow member, the speed of the fibres and the entraining air being aculated to that of the number in their passage from the roller conducting the fibres to the inner wall of the body when they are collected and retained by combing-means and by centrifugal action, operated from the entraining air, and withdrawing the fibres as spun yarn while deflecting and drawing off the air. Fibres are separated by needles 4, Fig. 1, not shown, on a roller 3 from a diver 1 which is delivered by a porcupine 2. One separated fibres are picked up by the needles of an accelerating roller 6 rotating at a faster speed and are conveyed through a conduit 7 with a tangential outlet 8 and disposed in a stationary member 15, Fig. 2, (not shown), to a hollow member 9. This rotates about a hollow shaft 17 at a speed approximating that of the roller 6. The fibres are returned on needles 21 in an annular internal groove while the air is withdrawn as ducts 23 rotate through apertures 25. The films are withdrawn as yarn through a guide 26 and the tube 7 by rollers 27. In another form, the accelerating roller 6 is replaced by a converging spiral conduit 31 in a fixed member 32; in this arrangement the air is drawn off by a fan, Fig. 4, (not shown), common to a number of devices. |
