1,253,404. Screw presses; hydraulic presses. L. LUTZ, and W. KICK, [trading as HILLER & LUTZ O.H.G.]. 21 Aug., 1969 [29 Aug., 1968], No. 41783/69, Heading B5F. A flywheel press comprises a spindle 4a having two oppositely threaded portions R, L, one portion R engaging a nut 7a carried by the press frame 1, and the other portion L engaging a press ram 5 which is held against rotation, a flywheel 3a secured to the press spindle 4a, and piston and cylinder devices 6 for reciprocating the ram 5. In the example shown in Fig. 4 there are two threaded spindles 4a, 4b and two flywheels 3a, 3b which rotate in opposite directions to counterbalance each other. Annular stops 8a, 8b are engageable by the flywheels, the stops being adjustable simultaneously by means of an interposed gear 11. Fig. 1 (not shown) shows a similar arrangement with one spindle only. In Fig. 2 (not shown) the piston and cylinder devices 6 are connected between the upper crosshead 2 and a bridge (9) disposed between the oppositely threaded portions of the spindle (4). In Fig. 3 (not shown) the piston and cylinder devices 6 are connected between the crosshead 2 and a bridge (10) connected to the spindle above the flywheel (3). |
