A swash-pump hydraulic pump or motor comprises a rotor 11 with parallel cylinders 12, a piston 20 in each cylinder 2 connected by a ball joint to a slipper pad 22, and a swash-plate assembly having a non-rotary cam plate 30 and rotatable plates 35, 37 which are connected together and between which slipper pads 22 are confined, each slipper pad having in it a passage extending from the associated cylinder to a pressure balancing recess in its surface engaging the running plate 35. The running plate 35 slides on the cam plate 30 while the faces 23 of the slipper pads bear on the front face of the running plate. The slipper retaining plate 37 is secured by bolts 36 to the running plate 35 and has a slot to receive each of the slipper pads. A plunger 41 centres the retaining and running plates 37, 35 and also holds the cam plate 30 in contact with the spherical recess 32 of the casing. The inclination of the swashplate assembly can be adjusted by servopiston 50 acting through spherical end 49 of stub shaft 33. An actuating member 54 is secured to a movable valve member 51 which co-operates with ports 52 to cause movement of the piston 50. A centering spring 53 restricts relative movement between the valve and piston. The pressure for actuating the servopiston is derived from the pump. The passages 60, 61, 62, 63 provide liquid from the cylinders in order to reduce friction and wear between the slipper pads, running plate and cam plate. |
