A phase-shifter, for shifting the phase of waves propagating therethrough in opposite directions respectively by amounts equal in magnitude and opposite in sign, comprises a non-reciprocal phase-shift device 12 connected at either end to circulators 21, 22. The circulators have opposite directions of circulation such that input A is coupled to output C<SP>1</SP> and input A<SP>1</SP> is coupled to output C, the phase shifts of the respective transmissions being +# and - #. The inputs A, A<SP>1</SP> may be connected to a common source G. The device 12 may be a quantized ferrite phase-shifter comprising a number of tubular ferrite or garnet elements arranged along the axis of a square waveguide and each provided with a separate axial control conductor for switching the remanent condition of the element between opposite extremes. The ferrite tubes may be filled with dielectric material. Alternatively, a range of phase-shift variation may be obtained by utilizing intermediate remanent states of the elements. |
