Novel sulfinato derivatives of cyclopentadienyl-titanium and -zirconium compounds, useful as plant-growth regulants, are prepared (1) by reacting sulfur dioxide with certain unsubstituted or substituted (cyclopentadienyl) titanium or -zirconium compounds or (2) by reacting a hydrocarbon sulfinic acid salt with a compound of the formula CpaMXb+c; e.g., bis(benzenesulfinato)dicyclopentadienyltitanium (1) from SO2 and dicyclopentadienyldiphenyltitanium or (2) from sodium benzenesulfinate and dichloro(dicyclopentadienyl)-titanium.
