<p>The disc brake for industrial application, eg cranes, comprises pivotal brake arms urged apart to release the brake by a screw having opposite-hand threads engaging respective nuts (7, 8) pivotally connected to the free ends of the arms. A rod extending through a bore in the screw is connected between the one nut and a spring at the remote side of the other nut to exert a brake-applying force. The screw is rotated by mechanism acting tangentially on a rotary casing (27) between the nuts. The casing acts on the screw through an automatic wear adjustment mechanism involving rotation of the rod whose connection to the one nut is by a screw thread.</p> |
