In the present publication, a bullet protection is disclosed for a background embankment comprising a water insulation 2, a protective layer 3, a drainage ditch 4, a damping layer 5 and a checkpoint for filtered water. The water insulation 2 carries water which has been filtered through the construction to the drainage ditch 4 from where it is carried to a well serving as a checkpoint. Above the water insulation, the protective layer 3 has been arranged, which ensures that the bullets do not foul the water insulation. The damping layer 5 is formed from a mixture of stone material and rubber granulate in order to absorb impacts caused by the bullets. The physical and chemical properties of the materials in the layers 3, 5, 6 have been regulated by means of chemicals such that heavy metals are dissolved to a small degree, and the dissolved metals are deposited as secondary minerals. By means of water samples taken from the check points, the efficiency of the bullet protection is ensured as regards adequate functioning and whether needs are present for repair measures. The final result is a safe and cost- efficient bullet protection not polluting the environment. <IMAGE>
