PURPOSE:To automatically perform initial position setting work of optical fibers by constituting a pair of mutually opposing holders of the turnable slip bases of which the top surfaces are formed into an arc shape and turnable rollers for pressurizing which press the optical fibers onto said top surfaces. CONSTITUTION:Exposed optical fibers are set respectively in slip holders 3, 4, and at this time, these are beforehand so located that the distances between the leading ends of both exposed parts and a butt bar 65 are smaller than the extents of movements of slip bases 12, 12a. In the state that the exposed parts oppose to each other, the optical fibers are pressed onto the slip bases 12, 12a by pressure rollers 13, 13a, after which a butt bar solenoid 66 is energized. By this, the bar 65 is forced upward. Thence, when rotary solenoids 30, 31 are energized, the slip bases 12, 12a turn and approach each other, and the end parts of the optical fiber exposed parts hold the top end part of the butt bar therebetween. Thereafter, the solenoid 66 is deenergized, and the bar 65 is pulled down, whereby the initial position is set. |
