Anti-inflammatory agents of the formula:

wherein R is C2-C9 alkanoyl, benzoyl, toluoyl, thenoyl, furoyl, C1-C6 alkanesulfonyl or benzenesulfonyl, and R<1> is hydrogen or methyl, processes for preparing them, and pharmaceutical compositions containing them. The compounds are especially useful as anti-inflammatory agents when administered topically.
