A novel process for the preparation of aryl esters of organic carboxylic acids in high isomer purity by decomposing a compound of the formula <IMAGE> I wherein Ar is an aryl radical, X is an acyloxy of an organic carboxylic acid and Y is selected from the group consisting of an acyloxy of an organic carboxylic acid and an anion of a strong organic and mineral acid in an aqueous media in the presence of a palladium salt or in the form of a two-phase reaction, wherein the aryl thallium salt is dissolved in water and the catalytic palladium salt is dissolved in a water-immiscible organic solvent and the reaction takes place with mixing.
