PURPOSE:To provide sepn. performance of condensible components in gas to a titled membrane, by depositing an alumina sol on a porous ceramic base material and subjecting the same to calcination, then subjecting said material to treatment such as impregnation into a soln. of aluminum alcoholate, etc., hydrolysis by heated steam and impregnation into an aq. sodium silicate soln. CONSTITUTION:The alumina sol is deposited by hydrolysis of the aluminum alcoholate, etc., on the porous ceramic base material and said material is impregnated in the org. solvent soln. of the aluminum alcoholate, etc., after drying and calcination to hydrolyze said soln. to the alumina sol by the heated steam; further, the base material is immersed in the aq. sodium silicate soln. and is then heat-treated in the steam. The above-mentioned operations are repeated until the alumina sol is sufficiently packed into the pores of the base material and further, the material is immersed in hot water to remove the sodium. The base material is thereafter dried by which the porous sepn. membrane is produced. The membrane having the fine pores is thereby produced with good reproducibility and the sepn. of the condensible components in the gas is permitted.
