PURPOSE:To make it possible to start a high voltage discharge lamp securely and stably by providing a middle tap at a secondary coil of a leak transformer connected with one terminal of the lamp and connecting a half wave double voltage type starter between the tap and the other terminal of the lamp. CONSTITUTION:Between one end (a) of a primary coil 4 of a leak transformer 1 and a middle tap (b) is connected a power source 7, between the other end (c) of the primary coil and one end (d) of a secondary coil 5 are connected parallel circuits of a main capacitor CM and its discharge resistance RH, and between the other end (e) of the coil 5 and the end (a) of the coil 4 is connected a metal halide lamp 8. Between a middle tap (f) of the coil 5 and the end (a) of the coil 4 is connected a half wave double voltage type starter 10 consisting of serial circuits of a pulse generating capacitor CP and a diode D and a bidirectional two terminal semiconductor switching element 9 such as an SSS element connected with them, thereby discharge of the capacitor CP can be boosted by the coil 5 so as to start a lamp 8 securely. |
