<p>A casket or 'funeral cocoon' for prolonged preservation of a body after embalming or preparation, is made from metal or polyester-carbon composition material. It has an outer truncated conical shell with a hemispherical cover (5) for its open end, and an inner carriage sliding on two rails and equipped with retaining straps for the body to be inserted. The small end of the truncated conical shell is in the form of a circular disc with a central aperture containing a valve (7) for creating a partial vacuum inside the casket with the aid of a vacuum pump, The large end has interlocking coupling rings and seals, and the casket can have an inner lining to give improved resistance to temperature fluctuations.
