METHOD FOR PRODUCING POWDER THROUGH ATOMIZA- TION WITH GAS

PURPOSE: To form uniform liquid drops by contacting a molten stream with an opposite direction gas stream to spread abruptly radially a molten stream and by contacting the stream with a fanwise swirling annular gas stream. CONSTITUTION: An axial direction molten material stream such as a metal is formed by a nozzle 10. A fanwise swirling annular gas stream is formed around and along the molten stream by a nozzle 11, and in this case the gas stream has a sufficient flow rate ratio of the angular velocity to the axial direction velocity (e.g. 0.6) for flowing a part of the gas stream while facing to the molten stream in the opposite axial direction to the swirling annular gas stream direction. And the molten stream is brought into contact with the gas stream of the opposite direction to spread the molten stream abruptly in the radial direction. Liquid drops are formed from the molten flow by contacting the radially spread molten stream with the swirling annular gas flow.
