PURPOSE: To use a sensor of simple structure to measure relative speed between an upper structure and a vehicle shaft of an automobile with the measurement result not affected by fault electromotive force generated by a coil spring in order to obtain the adjustment amount for adjusting the damping force of a spring foot in correspondence with road condition. CONSTITUTION: A sensor coil 10 cooperating with a permanent magnetic 9 is arranged in a cylinder pipe 1 and operationally connected with a piston 5. A connector 11 of the sensor coil 10 is guided out of a hollow piston rod 5, and the permanent magnetic 9 is connected to the cylinder pipe 1 directly or indirectly.
