PURPOSE:To obtain a fiber-reinforced porous body without breaking even with a great thermal stress by including longer SiO2 short fiber than the average pore diameter in a matrix composed of a porous cordierite therein. CONSTITUTION:The objective fiber-reinforced porous body is obtained by mixing fused silica with coarse tale, aluminum hydroxide, carbon, SiC short fiber having about 3mm length and water, providing a slurry, then drying the resultant slurry, adding an organic binder and water thereto, kneading the prepared mixture, subsequently pressing the kneaded mixture into a platy shape, firing the formed plate in the air, burning the binder and carbon, affording a porous form, then heating the porous plate to a high temperature in nitrogen gas, oxidizing the SiC short fiber and sintering the cordierite. Thereby, this porous body contains the longer SiC short fiber 4 than the average pore diameter 2 of a matrix 1 composed of the porous cordierite. The fiber-reinforced porous body is suitably used as a particulate trap filter. |
