PURPOSE:To allow dealing with many channels with a smaller number of elements by providing a beam displacing element (BDE), at least two pieces of polarized light rotating elements and a polarized light separating element. CONSTITUTION:The 1X2 optical switches which are a basic unit have the DBE, at least two pieces of the paralleled polarized light rotating elements and the polarized light separating element. The input light of nonpolarized light is divided to two polarized light; P polarized light and S polarized light intersecting orthogonally with each other by the BDE. Two polarized light are inputted to the two paralleled polarized light rotating elements a, b and are unified to the polarized light of P or S and are finally separated by the polarized light separating element. The control of the sepn. is attained by the way of rotation of two pieces of the polarized light rotating elements; for example, the output light is the P polarized light if the light is not rotated by the polarized light rotating element a but is rotated by the polarized light rotating element b. This light is outputted through the polarized light separating element to a photodetector 1. Since the optical switches are attained by such fewer elements, the switches are miniaturized. |
