A measuring head is attached to a grinding-wheel carrier of an NC gear-grinding machine, in which case tooth profile, tooth trace, tooth pitch and the like of a ground gear in the NC gear-grinding machine are measured by activation of the control functions of various parts provided on the machine, without having to unclamp the gear from the machine. The measuring head attached to the grinding-wheel carrier can be withdrawn from a position in which it bears on the tooth flank of the ground gear clamped in the grinding machine into a position in which it does not obstruct the grinding wheel during the grinding operation, so that the grinding wheel does not need to be unclamped from the machine even during the gear measurement.
