摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve gradation reproductivity and, moreover to visibly reduce noise existing in an input picture itself regardless of a picture output device for outputting an output picture signal where noise is superimposed and also regardleses of the contents of an input picture and the kind of a picture input device when noise which is hard to be visually sensed is positively superimposed on a picture signal. SOLUTION: Noise data corresponding to the picture output devices 5A and 5B is previously written in an output device correspondence noise providing part 80. An input picture signal feature quantity calculating part 60 calculates the noise feature quantities of a lightness signal L and chromaticity signals (a) and (b). A noise quantity calculating part 70 calculates the noise quantity from the calculated feature quantities dL, da and db,; noise N1 corresponding to the picture output device outputting the output picture signal So from the output device correspondence noise providing part 80, the lightness signal L and the chromaticity signals (a) and (b). The calculated noise quantities N2L, N2a and N2b are superimposed with the lightness signal L and the chromaticity signals (a) and (b) in a noise superimposing part 50.
