PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to display a pseudo halftone image of continuous 2<n> gradation by a PDP(plasma display panel) which can conventionally display only a pseudo halftone image display of gradation of 2<n> gradation of below. SOLUTION: This device is provided with an error diffusion circuit 26 obtaining a diffusion output signal of (m) bits from an input video signal of (n) bits, a date conversion circuit 14a converting the diffusion output signal of (m) bits to a drive signal for displaying a halftone image on the PDP 16 by a sub-field method and a luminance correcting memory 28 outputting the prescribed error data to the error diffusion circuit 26 using the diffusion output signal of (m) bits as an address. Then, the error data in the memory 28 are made the error data d0 -15 in respective drive signal on a light emission luminance line P set for the PDP 16a and a correction luminance line q linking a point Zp of the luminance level zero on the light emission luminance line P and the point Mp of a maximum luminance level. Since error diffusion processing along the correction luminance line q is performed, the pseudo halftone image display of the continuous 2<n> gradation is made possible. |
