The flywheel assembly has two flywheels (1,26) rotatable relative to one another against the action of resilient elements (7) of a damping device (8) output-side flywheel (26) remote from a crankshaft drive (64) is guided radially and axially with respect to input-side flywheel (1) connected to the crankshaft through a bearing arrangement (14) having an axial bearing and a radial bearing. Each bearing (60,61) provides a clearance of such a size that on the introduction of a wobbling or tumbling movement from the crankshaft (64) to the input-side flywheel (1), the output-side flywheel, under the action of gyroscopic forces can self-stabilise. The radial bearing is arranged axially as close as possible to the crankshaft, in the region of the end of a hub (13) of the output-side flywheel (26).
