PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent hunting from being caused by inter-vehicle distance control when a vehicle is automatically stopped and when it starts after automatic stop. SOLUTION: A controller 11 reads vehicle sped which is a signal output of a vehicle speed sensor 15, brake pressure detected by a brake pressure sensor 13, throttle opening, and the actual intervehicle distance detected by an intervehicular distance detecting device 8. Then the desired intervehicle distance which depends on the vehicle speed is calculated. Then the intervehicle distance deviation, i.e., the deviation of the actual intervehicular distance from the desired intervehicle distance, is calculated. Then the desired acceleration is calculated. Throttle control that may match the desired acceleration calculated is executed. Then it is determined whether or not the desired acceleration can be reached only by an engine brake with the throttle fully closed. If the desired acceleration is not reached, brake control that matches the desired acceleration is executed.
|
