PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress deterioration of the battery capacity as the charge/ discharge cycle is advanced by providing a negative electrode having an active substance layer containing the polymer which is obtained through emulsion and polymerization of at least one kind of nonionic monomer under the presence of the nonionic surfactant, and a hydrogen occlusion alloy. SOLUTION: A negative electrode includes a hydrogen occlusion alloy and the binder as the active substance. The polymer to be obtained through emulsion and polymerization of the nonionic monomer under the presence of the nonionic surfactant is used for the binder. The surfactant to be used in manufacturing the polymer includes poly-oxyethylene lauric ether, and the monomer includes methyl acrylate. When the polymer other than the polymer to be used for the binder is contained in the negative electrode, the electrode can be easily manufactured, and the safety of a battery is improved. For example, the polymer includes the non-water-soluble polymer such as poly-tetra-fluoroethylene, and the water-soluble polymer such as carboxyl-methyl-cellulose. |
