PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce the subject compound excellent in stability of color tone and fragrance with the passage of time at low cost by oxidizing an amidamine compound in the presence of a specific organic phosphonic acid compound. SOLUTION: The objective compound is produced by reacting (A) an amidamine compound of formula I [R<3> is a (substituted by hydroxy) 7-21C alkyl or alkeny; R<4> and R<5> are each a (substituted by hydroxyl) 1-5C alkyl or alkenyl; (n) is 1-5] (e.g. N,N-dimethylaminopropyloctylamide) with (B) hydrogen peroxide in a quantity of >=110 mole % of stoichiometric one based on the quantity of the amidamine compound. The reaction is conducted in the presence of an organic phosphonic acid of formula II (R<1> is H or a 1-3C alkyl; M<1> , M<2> , M<3> and M<4> are each H or an alkali metal atom) in a quantity of 0.1-1.5 mole % based on the mole quantity of the charged amidamine compound, and at 40-100 deg.C (preferably at 60-l00 deg.C). |
