A fuel cell base tube, containing coarse base tube raw material particles or metal oxide particles, is new. A base tube for a fuel cell, produced by forming fuel and air electrodes on the base tube surface, consists of a mixture of the base tube raw material and either coarse particles of the same material or a metal oxide. Preferred Features: The mixture comprises the base tube raw material (especially calcium oxide-stabilized zirconia) of 1 microns average particle diameter and 10-40 wt. % of either coarse particles of /- 5 microns particle diameter or NiO, CoO or FeO particles of the same diameter as the base tube raw material or of /- 5 microns particle diameter.
